Bactericidal and inhibitory effects

Oral treatment with Er: YAG dental laser can significantly reduce the spread of infection. First, treatment with Er: YAG dental laser does not have the rotating spread of traditional rotating instruments. In addition, during the treatment, Er: YAG dental laser would react with water molecules in bacteria and viruses, kill and remove bacteria.

The LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser has a wavelength of 2940nm. Its energy is mainly absorbed by water. The molecules in the irradiated area can produce micro-blasts to effectively remove and cut the soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Treating only the infected tissue while preserving the surrounding and underlying healthy tissue. The air and water parameter values of LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser could be adjusted between 1-8 levels, with air pressure as low as 8.5psi and water mist as low as 4ml/min. What’s more, when using the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser, the air and water mist can be completely closed, and there are 4 operation modes to choose from: the operation of turning off the water vapor, the operation of turning off only the cooling water, the operation of turning off only the air or Turn on the operation of water vapor. When using the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser, the risk caused by the spread of aerosols, bacteria and viruses (including COVID-19) is much lower than when using rotating tools such as drill bits.

How should dentists operate to reduce the quantity of aerosol in dental clinics and limit the spread of the virus?

Hard Tissue Treatment: In order to cut or remove tooth enamel, dentin, carious tissue or bone, it is better and safer to use LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser, which can be used to replace rotating tools such as high-speed and low-speed drills. Dentists can use the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser for partial treatments, using only the cooling water and no air spray, thereby reducing the risk of aerosol contamination.


Soft Tissue Treatment: LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser can be used without any spray air/water, eliminating the risk of aerosol contamination. When using the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser gentle mode (in the case of very low ablation energy), it does not require any spray air/water or only a small amount of water to operate, thereby avoiding the generation of aerosols.

Bactericidal and inhibitory effects

LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser could be used to sterilize the ablated tissue and the remaining dental tissue to ensure microbe-free operation and avoid the spread of harmful infectious diseases [1,2]. However, the use of a turbine handpiece does not have any disinfection and antibacterial effect.
